Some of Jeremiah's Favorite Things
We had an incredible time in Nashville this weekend. THANK YOU! It feels like we are smack dab in the middle of our glory days and I hope you know how much we appreciate you letting us do this and showing up. I really think this album we’ve been writing/working out is the best thing we’ve ever done. And part of that is you letting us show up and show you the process. What kindness!
You, know I’ve always been a fan of stuff. I’m an excitable guy (as you know).
I’m a cheerleader of all of my favorite genres of creativity: music, movies, what have you. I think it’s my favorite part of being a human being (with eating and sleeping being a close second and third). Which is why I want to share this week some of my favorite things other human beings are making.
TV and Movies:
Shogun is my favorite thing on television at the moment. It airs every Tuesday on FX. That’s the same night Erin has orchestra. So, every Tuesday night for the past 4 or 5 weeks, I’ve bought a bag of popcorn, put on my PJ’s, and watched Shogun with Noodles. She doesn’t like it as much as I thought she would but I think it’s because she doesn’t like the subtitles. I read the Japanese parts out loud to her, but she just tilts her head. Imagine Game of Thrones meets Pirates of the Caribbean meets Samurai. I’ve been learning Japanese on Duolingo and will be teaching Noodles-San before each week’s episode. Konichiwa!
Dune Part II may be old news to you by now. But I think it rivals any movie that’s ever been made. I’m not a “sci-fi” guy, but I believe it raises the bar for every movie that comes after it. You can press pause at any moment and have a frame good enough to hang in a museum. When I walked out of the theater, I had to remind myself that I actually live on Earth.
Erin and I always love a show we watch together. That show right now is Abbot Elementary. It’s a show that was obviously created by lover’s of such shows as The Office and Parks and Rec. It’s not the most groundbreaking TV show of all time, but it definitely has wholesome fun that doesn’t cost the viewer too much. And it makes you want to hug a teacher.
Music:
This could be a much longer list but I just wanted to share some of the songs/albums that have been moving me more than usual this week.
Abby Holliday’s ‘Immortal’ is an emotional wrecking ball. I was standing in my kitchen the first time I heard the first line, “I get this feeling you’re going to die early” and I couldn’t help but tear up. Is Sad Pop the best genre there is? Probably not but you forget that in the 4 minutes you’re listening to that incredible song.
Adrianne Lenker may be the best songwriter in the business. And I know I speak in hyperbole all the time and it’s the most annoying thing you’ll hear in your life, but I actually mean it. Listen to Free Treasure and tell me I’m wrong. Her other band, Big Thief, has never released a bad song and her solo project is an intimate masterclass in perfect songwriting.
Young Mister released a new song called Trenches that has been blaring in our house since it’s release. He could sing the ingredients to a Spaghetti-O’s can and it’d still feel like a hit song. But, luckily, the song was also written by him so it’s great. It made me go back into his entire catalogue and I recommend you do the very same.
What are you into right now? I find enjoying art is the easiest way to survive this wild world we live in. And it’s an election year! Paul Simon for everyone!
Love ya’ll!
